Body-Centered Classrooms with Rasa

October 28, 2021 @ 4:30 pm - 5:45 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 4:30 pm on Thursday, repeating until October 28, 2021

We cannot be at our best when we are overwhelmed.

The freedom to flow is not just about regulation of our own nervous system, but it is about establishing healthy and respected boundaries in relationship to others and institutions. In this two-part workshop we will explore ways to settle our nervous system as well as how to push back against power and to assert our boundaries as a form of self and community care. We practice Rasa, a liberatory movement form that combines collective inquiry with words and the potential of our moving and relational bodies. No movement experience is needed, just a willingness to get out of your head to laugh, cry and radically imagine a new future together.

Sign up for one or both 2 part workshops in October 2021.

Presenter Bio: Andrew Suseno is the creator of Rasa. Rasa is the Indonesian word for taste or the discernment of feeling by the heart. Its roots trace back to Sanskrit where it is the essence or the divine that artists would attempt to connect an audience to through their work. As a practice, Rasa, is a movement and design form that develops profound understanding and facility of our body and nervous system in context so it can partner with us rather than impede perception of Rasa. Andrew is a passionate advocate for affinity spaces for BIPOC and using movement and awareness building as an essential ingredient to how we show up and create rapport and knowledge with one another.  Andrew is a doctor of physical therapy, modern dancer, and a certified practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method and Laban Movement Analysis.

This event is open to all NJEA members.
