SUMMARY:Survivor Speaks & How to Bring them to your Classroom
DESCRIPTION:New Jersey is a pioneer in Holocaust Education and has one of the largest populations of Holocaust Survivors. One of the most meaningful and unique experiences a New Jersey student gets is having a Holocaust Survivor or a descendant of Survivors come to speak to their class. This program is designed to\, not only give the experience of hearing a Survivor speak but also to give NJ teachers the tools they need in order to meaningfully and appropriately incorporate live testimony into their Holocaust lessons.

SUMMARY:Teaching about the Holocaust\, Learning from the Holocaust
DESCRIPTION:What is the relationship between teaching about the Holocaust and learning from the Holocaust? That is a question many teachers are increasingly asking. Can Holocaust education raise\nawareness of contemporary racism\, antisemitism\, Islamophobia\, and threats to democracy? Can Holocaust education help to sow “seeds of concern” among students and others about what it means to be a citizen in a democracy? Can Holocaust education contribute to understanding and preventing future genocides? If so\, how? SUMMARY:Teaching Inclusively: African American History Across the Curriculum
DESCRIPTION:Continuing Professional Development for NJ Teachers \nTeaching Inclusively: African American History Across the Curriculum \nThe Amistad Curriculum serves as a model for districts across the country of what should be occurring within classrooms. The empowerment of educators to effectively infuse African American history into their curriculum is essential to its success. This experience is focused on simplifying those complexities for application. Educators are looking for ways to engage with students organically while also having fun. Modules are inclusive of all learning styles and rooted in arts-driven curriculum design\, which allows educators to experience what we are teaching them to implement. Experience is literally the best teacher\, and the modules are designed to capitalize on this important aspect of learning. \nContinuing Professional Development for NJ Teachers FINAL.docx

SUMMARY:The Annual Kristallnacht Lecture Remembering the Holocaust & Emigration: The Moritz and Hammerschlag Families
DESCRIPTION:The Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center will commemorate the 85th Anniversary of Kristallnacht with the Annual Kristallnacht Lecture at 7 p.m. on Monday\, Nov. 6th\, in-person at the Chabad at the Shore – Chai Center (6605 Atlantic Avenue\, Ventnor City\, NJ 08406) and online via Zoom.\n \nDr. Michael Hayse\, Associate Professor of Historical Studies and Holocaust & Genocide Studies at Stockton University will speak about the experiences of Wally (nee Moritz) and Lutz Hammerschlag during and after Kristallnacht. Kristallnacht\, also known as the November Pogrom\, was an organized two days of violence and destruction targeting Jews in Germany and previously annexed Austria on November 9-10\, 1938. During this pogrom\, 1408 synagogues and places of worship were destroyed\, and 30\,000 Jewish men were arrested. The government\, instead of protecting the Jews\, encouraged citizens to commit this violence and vandalism.\n \nThis program will feature Dr. Hayse\, as well as Lennard Hammerschlag\, the son of Wally and Lutz Hammerschlag\, and a resident of Southern New Jersey. They will explore the aftermath of Kristallnacht. Like many Jews in Germany\, Wally and Lutz realized they could no longer live safely in Germany and sought refuge in another country. Both families found refuge in the only place they could secure a visa: Rhodesia (today Zimbabwe).\n \nThis program is open to the general public. It is especially relevant to students\, educators\, and anyone interested in learning more about the Holocaust and the experiences of German Jews.\n \nZoom Link: https://stockton.zoom.us/j/92521316368\n \nThe lecture is free and open to the public. New Jersey educators can receive 2.0 professional development hours.\n \nFor more information\, call the Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center at 609-652-4699 or email Irvin.Moreno-Rodriguez@stockton.edu

SUMMARY:General Strategies for Mainstream Educators of ELLs/MLs
DESCRIPTION:No matter what you do in education\, chances are that you will interact with an EL (English Learner) sooner rather than later. That is because all educators are educators of English Learners as these amazing students embark on their academic journeys. Unfortunately\, not many education programs focus on how to support ELs. This virtual workshop will identify English Learners and their different proficiency levels. Then participants will be introduced interactively to strategies and scaffolds to support English Learners at all proficiency levels in the mainstream classroom. Participants will be supplied with strategies and resources that can be implemented immediately.
