On May 31, 2022, the New Jersey Department of Education launched a new system for administering certification records. Details are available on the NJEdCert homepage. Aspiring and currently certified educators may use the new portal to apply for certifications, view certification records, request name changes, etc. Districts and educator preparation programs also enter information into the system as required.

Remember that as of May 2015, the NJ Department of Education (NJDOE) no longer issues paper certificates. All certificate records have been maintained and accessed online in the Teacher Certification Information System (TCIS). TCIS will be closed in late August 2022. All TCIS certification records are expected to be migrated to NJEdCert by then.

The NJDOE announced that all open applications filed in TCIS, must be completed by July 31, 2022. Incomplete applications in TCIS will expire on August 1, 2022.

Recommended action for all certificated educators:

Currently certified educators are encouraged to go to TCIS to view their certificates and download a copy. To view current certificates, go to the TCIS link above and enter your last name as it would appear on your certificates and your social security number. Click on View All Certificates to download your record. Note the tracking number which will be useful in linking a TCIS record to a new NJEdCert account.

Next, go to the NJEdCert portal to create an account. Use your current name, regardless of which name appears on your certificates. Enter the tracking number that you found in TCIS. You will receive a welcome email from NJEdCert with a link. Follow the prompts to choose your password and finalize your profile. All records should be migrated to NJEdCert by late August.  Contact the NJDOE via the Contact Customer Service feature in the NJEdCert portal if you cannot access your certificate/s.
