Community of Practice Power Hour

“Communities of Practice are groups of people who share a common concern, set of problems, or passion about a topic, and deepen their knowledge and expertise in this area by interacting on an ongoing basis.”

–  Etienne Wenger

Purpose

The NJEA PDII Community of Practice for educators will serve as a collaborative space where they can share knowledge, expertise, and best practices. It will facilitate problem-solving, continuous learning, professional connections, and professional development, encouraging reflection and staying updated with current trends. By building relationships and networks, educators expand their support systems and access to resources. This community will also promote equity, inclusion, diversity, and belonging in educational practices and spaces, ultimately aiming to enhance student success through empowered and well-equipped educators.

Overview

The NJEA PDII Community of Practice will be an energizing experience for its participants. We will meet virtually every month from October to April for dynamic discussions on a range of educational topics. Our sessions will be led by two enthusiastic Professional Development and Instructional Issues Consultants, ensuring engaging and interactive conversations. We believe in organic discussions that are guided by the needs and expertise of the group, making each session unique and impactful. This is not your traditional PD, but a less formal means of collaborating, learning, sharing experiences, and growing together!

The NJEA PDII Community of Practice is guided by the following values:

  • Inclusivity: Embracing diversity and ensuring all voices are heard and valued.
  • Equity: Promoting fairness and equal opportunity for all.
  • Collaboration: Fostering a spirit of teamwork and cooperative effort.
  • Innovation: Encouraging creative thinking and the exploration of new ideas.
  • Empowerment: Supporting members to take initiative and lead within the community.
  • Sustainability: Ensuring the long-term viability and impact of the community.
