One day in-person, three days virtual
The Computer Science Teachers Association of New Jersey (CSTANJ), in partnership with its national counterpart, CSTA, is offering professional development for K-12 teachers. Participants will attend one day in-person on Aug. 5 and three days of virtual meetings on Zoom, Aug. 6-8.
Monday’s in-person event, held at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), in Ewing, N.J., will enable PreK-12 teachers to gather for fellowship, collaboration and support. Grade band-specific workshops will be offered virtually Tuesday through Thursday. Workshops catering to PreK-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 teachers will provide lessons and ideas that can be implemented in the classroom.
New Jersey Computer Science Week will include professional development offerings across all grade bands and emphasize the need to prepare K-12 teachers to teach computer science and adopt the new Computer Science 8.1 and Design Thinking 8.2 standards that went into effect in 2022.
No computer science knowledge or experience required.
This year’s event is funded in part by a U.S. Department of Education Education Innovation and Research (EIR) grant, and attendees from K-12 public and charter schools are eligible for a $900 stipend for attending the full four days. New Jersey private school, higher education, preK and preservice teachers can attend but will not receive a stipend through the EIR grant program. Stipends may be provided through other New Jersey CS sources and paid volunteer opportunities may be available. Further information will be provided after acceptance into CSPD Week.
There is a registration fee of $35. Registration includes a T-shirt, breakfast and lunch on Monday Aug. 5. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet your peers across the state and catch up with friends you’ve known for a while.
