This session grounds participants in the historical, political, and educational significance of African American history in K–12 classrooms. We will explore:

• The ongoing struggle over whose history is taught and why it matters
• Key historical narratives often excluded or minimized in traditional curricula
• The connection between African American history, student identity, and academic engagement
• Strategies for integrating culturally responsive and historically accurate content across subject areas

Participants will leave with practical entry points, sample resources, and a clearer understanding of how to confidently teach this content in today’s educational climate.
