Parent workshop at Camden Community Riletta T. Cream Elementary School supports students, parents

The NJEA ACCESS Model provided support for the Camden Community Riletta T. Cream Elementary School by assisting them with hosting a parent workshop on attendance and other topics.

The workshop was held on Oct. 25 at the Camden Parent Engagement Center. NJEA ACCESS consultant Linda Thomas has been working with the school to develop a strategic alliance with the community, parents, administration, teachers, and students within the Camden School District.

Thomas and Family Coordinator Ms. S. Wynn hosted an event and breakfast for the parents of R. T. Cream to engage in conversations about the importance of attendance. Also discussed were details on school protocols, policies and procedures that parents need to be aware of regarding attendance, absence and notification for the school.

Thomas and Wynn explained to the parents how responsibility and attendance in elementary school can affect college and even the job market. These types of presentations are done about once per month in the parent engagement center.

Prior to working for NJEA, Thomas worked in education for more than four decades. She was an educational leader who served as a middle school teacher, principal, supervisor of curriculum, Special Education and Chief Administrator of Affirmative Action.
